science for the curious
The Blog for Curious Minds
the place where I try to find research-based answers to absolutely random questions about everyday life
Nice to meet you!
I’m Pauline, I study neuroscience at Maastricht Science Programme. Remember all the questions about the world you had as a child? Like, how parrots are able to talk or what makes you sleepy in the evening? Reading scientific articles is my way of satisfying childish curiosity and finding answers to all questions I can think of. This blog is my attempt to share what I learn and encourage people to stay curious. You can also ask me anything, I'll make a post about it!
What do i do?
It all starts with a question. Next, I search for related articles using scientific databases, such as Pubmed, Web of Science, Science Direct etc. Best case scenario – I find a clear answer to my question, but let’s be honest – it happens rarely. Most of the time there are multiple possible explanations or no answer at all, so I focus on most recent evidence and key findings.
I always take special care to...
– cite sources and include recent evidence
– keep the writing simple, explain scientific terms or avoid them if possible
– take into account constructive criticism, please don't hesitate to send me an email with suggestions/feedback
